PLAN A: Have a wedding 'cupcake cake' with three large cupcakes as the cake topper. Eat one at the wedding. Freeze the remaining two large cupcakes to have on our first anniversary. Perfect plan!
RESULT: Random wedding guests ate the remaining two large cupcakes! I never figured out who it was, but I bet they enjoyed them! We then moved onto Plan B.
PLAN B: Freeze a few of the remaining small cupcakes and the decorated large groom cupcakes, decorated with Ohio State, Iowa and Purdue emblems. Eat these cuppies on first anniversary.
RESULT: Cupcakes make it home from the wedding safely. My mom and I take great care when wrapping cupcakes. They have a special spot in the outdoor deep freezer all year. They are safe and sound. UNTIL, two weeks prior to the first anniversary, I unplug the outdoor deep freezer to plug in a small shop vac to clean a very messy car. I totally forgot to plug the deep freezer in all my clean car glory. DH discovers the unplugged freezer several days later. Oops. Everything was melted in the freezer, including the cupcakes. Darn.
So, as with many things Jenny and Doug, we made the best of it. Then moved onto Plan C.
PLAN C: Throw gross cupcakes in the trash and place order for some delicious fresh anniversary cupcakes!
RESULT: TBD, but I'm thinking this plan will finally work!

Way to go, Jenny. . You crack me up.
I say "Yea!" for fresh cupcakes. I get tradition, but eating a year old cake sounds gross to me. Of course, I'm biased since my Mother accidentally threw out my weeking cake topper.
Love the pictorial edition of the story!
haha... that was great! Our wedding cake was.. not so delicious after 365 days - but I would be all about the fresh cupcakes!! :) Blessings to you on your anniversary!
This made me laugh. :) But all of that sounds frustrating!
We did eat our cake topper, and it was actually really good since my dad wrapped it so airtight that freezer burn didn't even have a chance! haha
However, the baker who did my friends wedding cake actually included a fresh anniversary cake in the price of her wedding cake! Apparently she is of the opinion that fresh cake is ALWAYS better! :) Probably true, and I'm sure your fresh cupcakes will be amazing!! :)
LOL. The looks on your faces... well, it was worth a try. I like the fresh anniversary cake solution. :-D I have no idea what we're going to do with ours. I doubt GF cake will taste good after a year.
OH no!!! The new cupcakes will taste just as sweet if not sweeter :) Yesterday at my mother's she gave us another section of our cake to eat for our 2nd anniversary. It is currently defrosting in our fridge. We will see. haha
HAHA! My mother threw ours away as it was defrosting on the table the day before our 1 year anniversary. Gheez!
I'm sure the cupcakes will be YUMMY!
You crack me up! I wish I had one ounce of what you have to pay attention to detail....
Rock on sista! Eat one for me please!!! I love those things!!!
I laughed outloud reading this hahahaha!!!
Ryan's uncle kept saying "I will MAKE you a new cake for your anniversary" and I kept saying "no, I want to save it!!!" I am so attached to traditions...but honestly I don't even know where our anniversary cake is - in my parents freezer or Ryan's parents freezer maybe??? haha! Wow I am so on top of things ;)
Our wedding cake container's cover came off in the freezer so we didn't dare try it!
Can't believe it's been a year!
Ha ha ha! This is so funny!!! I love how it's all documented, and in black and white!
Don't think we remembered to save any cake. Bummer because it was the best cake ever. But, maybe it's good that we didn't, after reading this.
The pictures make this post even greater than it already is!! Happy (almost) anniversary! Time sure flies when you're having fun, huh?! :)
This is hilarious! Doug's face is PRICELESS! Happy Anniversary to you both!
You are the funniest couple! Sorry about the cupcakes - Snicks and I agree that freezing a cake is the easiest way to ruin it's taste (I guess letting the freezer defrost is another way, LOL). Enjoy the fresh cupcakes and CONGRATS!
You guys are soo funny :) Happy Anniversary!!!
ha! you two are so cute! and funny! we did not want to pay for an extra layer of cake just to freeze it (and have it not taste as good the next year). So since we got our cake from a local bakery, we just buy ourselves a new one every year to celebrate. delicious! I hope you enjoy your cupcakes!! inallthingsgood.blogspot.com
lol!!!! I love how this is documented!
Hilarious! I'm all for fresh cupcakes! Invite your wedding party over to celebrate!
Well? Did Plan C work????
Happy Anniversary!
