A great time had by all...

We went to a great wedding reception this weekend!  It was crazy fun!  I had a 'reception' blog post in my drafts... but never posted it!  I thought it was about time I do that!  Ha!  Here is is!
Shots of tomato soup and mini grilled cheese sandwiches... YUM!
Your mouth should be watering... these cuppies are to die for!  We had one made named after us, a cinnamon cake with almond icing called "The Jenny and Doug."  It is now sold at the cupcakery! Sew and Life Hopes can verify the yumminess... they've both had these when in Indiana!
The "Groom Cupcakes" Purdue is for Doug.

The Ohio State is for his family.

I'm a Hawkeye!!

The entrance... to the Star Wars theme.  Super fun!

Best Man during the toast.
MOH during her toast.

Cheers!
Yum!  Yum!  Yum!
First Dance.  Doug sang the old Kenny Rogers song, "You decorated my life" to me while we danced.

I love this picture!
Father/Daughter dance.  I totally lost it!  Dancing to "Your Song" by Garth.

Doug and his mom... and the kiddos!

Cutest couple at the party!

Our reception activity!  These were SO much fun to read!

We had some fun dancing it up!

We have video of us dancing... it's hysterical!

One of my favorite pictures of the whole wedding.
Dancing with Donna and Dominic!  Fun times!

We had so much fun TOGETHER!  We tried to be with each other as much as possible!! Sounds funny, but several people gave us that advice... to celebrate the reception together, instead of worrying about all the guests!  It totally worked!
Ahh... Beth and the Bud... aka John Paul.

More dancing...
MOH + three glasses of wine at one time = Fun Times!

One of the best friends a gal can have!

Last dance of the evening.

So crazy in love!  It was such a fun day!

The exit.

I've got a good one.

The last few weeks have not been the best at work.
So, I sent my DH this:
I know, I know... I could have a better attitude.

In response, my DH sent me this:
Yep, I've got a good one!  He instantly made me gush and I couldn't quit smiling!  I think I'll hang this up in my little cubicle, so I can be reminded every day of just how wonderful I have it!

The rocky road that lead me Home

When Leila asks... I will answer!  My journey through my Catholic faith has been life-long, with lots of twists and turns along the way.  Here is my story:

I was raised Catholic and my parents gave me a wonderfully solid Catholic foundation and upbringing, filled with Catholic school and lots of Knight of Columbus events.  We went to mass every Sunday, never missed a beat.  I was confirmed in high school and was proud to be Catholic at my little baptist college.  I attended mass in my little college town, well... when it did not interfere with a  party, studying, sleeping in or something else.  I did, at the very least, attend once a month.  They would have a mass on campus and all the Catholic faculty and staff would provide dinner afterwards.  Every Catholic student made it to that!

After college, my life seemed to be moving fast and my secular needs were my priority.  My life was filled with chaos and I had little time to devote to my faith.  Within the two years prior to reclaiming my faith, I had: Applied and was accepted to the peace corps., gotten engaged, quit my job, moved across the country, found a new job, totaled a car, broke my back, planned a wedding, passed pre-cana, called off a wedding two weeks before the wedding, quit my job, moved back across the country, found another new job, found new boyfriend, moved again, lost new boyfriend and moved once more.  Needless to say, my life had little direction and it seemed as if the weight of the world was on my shoulders. It was then that I landed in the midwest and found myself with an invitation to attend the Fr.assati Society of Young Ad.ult Catho.lics annual conference.  A friend of mine had attended and told me it was amazing.

At first glance, I was intrigued with the idea of attending the conference.  I wondered if it was what I had been looking for in my life.  But I was very hesitant.  Money was tight and I did not want to spend money on something that I did not know anything about, especially a boring Catholic conference!  I tried every excuse in the book to convince myself that I should not go – I even told my mother that I would drive to Ohio and clean my parents’ house that weekend!  For someone who hates to clean – that is desperation!  My mom told me no and to go to the conference.  But there was still the issue of money.   I then received word that my way would be paid for by way of a conference scholarship.  My friend had contacted the Frassati Society and requested a scholarship on my behalf.  Since my last excuse was gone, I reluctantly registered – the night before the conference.  I went to the conference not knowing anybody and being very distant from my Catholic faith.  I did not know what I would find at the conference, but I did not have high expectations.  What I found was the beginning of my new life.  I spent the weekend meeting amazing life long friends (Beth!!!) and listening in awe to speakers talk about what it meant to live out the Catholic faith.  I saw young adult Catholics on fire for their faith and leading lives filled with strong morals and convictions.  It was truly incredible!  And I could see my life changing before my eyes.

My most memorable part of the weekend was time set apart for adoration and confession.  I hadn’t been to either in nearly ten years, since my confirmation. Fr. Richard told me during that confession that Catholics have confession more often than that and I should feel free to come by anytime!!  HA!  I confessed my sins and was absolved.

Fr. Richard then told me that there are a lot of young adults in the world that lead ordinary lives and this was my chance to live an extraordinary life!

I took those words to heart and left the confessional feeling like a new person, like a huge weight had been lifted from my shoulders.  I went out to the church, knelled down and truly prayed.  I looked up at the cross with Jesus’ arms outstretched and I knew at that moment that everything in my life would be ok – that nothing that I had done or hadn’t done or would do would prevent Christ from taking me back as His own.  I cried because I knew that all of my little anxieties and my heartaches were nothing compared to what He had done for me.  It had never occurred to me so clearly that Christ had suffered and died for me --  Jenny.  I had heard that a million times, but I really never got it until that moment at the conference.  It was the most defining moment of my entire life!

I know that God had called me to the conference so I could reclaim my Catholic faith and build upon it.  I look back in glorious wonder about how everything lined up so perfectly... all the good and all the bad... so I would be at the right place to attend the conference.   That was all HIM!  My life dramatically changed after the conference.  Friends that I had been my best ones for years, did not like the new faith filled Jenny.  They wanted to and had to go and man, it was hard.  But now, looking back... it's such a blessing!  I now how the MOST WONDERFUL group of friends!  They are the friends that will be friends for life.  The majority of them I met at the conference (including two of my bridesmaids!) ... the others I met by being involved in my parish, which would have NEVER happened without the conference.

My parents are responsible for installing the Catholic faith in my life and the Frassati Society is responsible for bringing that childhood faith into adulthood.  My store is not unique -- the Frassati Society changes lives and inspires others just like me at every holy conference!  You should see the number of young men that attend... I think hoping to find a Catholic wife... that are now seminarians!!  It's AMAZING!!

I am now educated in my faith and can now defend it without hesitation or apology!  That is such an amazing feeling.  There are hills and valleys in my faith all the time.  I am far from perfect and my faith continues to grow.  But I would not even be near to where I am now, without attending that first conference!  I even planned the Fras.sati Conference for several years... and to think I didn't even want to go!  In fact, it was immediately after I chaired my very last conference (as in less than one hour after the closing talk) .... that I met Doug.  Yep... all in God's plan!
For a few more fun conference experiences, go here and here!

Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati, pray for us!

My Favorite Veterans

Happy Memorial Day!

Nothing like a few surprise overnight guests to make you DEEP CLEAN your house -- and quick!  My parents are doing a surprise stop by this afternoon and staying until Wednesday.  We are thrilled to see them, since it's been awhile!  We had mentioned we were grilling out with Doug's parents tonight and said, "You should come!" and they said yes.  This was last night.  They are about 7 hours away at a Knig.hts of Colu.mbus convention.  They are making a huge detour and heading our way.  Our house =  a wreck -- kitchen stuff in the living room (due to the damaged floors!) ... bedroom stuff in the living room (due to laziness!) ... laundry hanging everywhere -- A WRECK!!  So Doug and I are quickly scrambling to get it all in company condition!  We will have both sets of parents in the house, which has never happened before!  I'm excited... but thinking about that long list of stuff to do.  Which task do I tackle first??  Blogging!  Haha!

Since we are celebrating Memorial Day... I thought I'd show you a few pictures of my favorite Veterans.  My family comes from a loooooong line of Navy guys.  I'm one of the only cousins who has not been in the military.  The thought of going to boot camp ruined it for me!  I am super proud of my family members and sincerely thank them for all they did and are doing to make my freedom possible!  So, here are my two favorites!  Have a wonderful day!
My Dad...
My dad on the USS Enterprise during the Vietnam War.
My Older Brother Jeff...

My brother while he was serving in Iraq.  That's 130 degrees!  Wow!

It's worth watching!!!  I promise!!  It works best if you push play, then pause it for a tiny bit... then watch!!  Enjoy!!!

You never appreciate...

...running water until it is gone!

We are going on day 3 of no running water and it looks like we will have at least 3 - 4 more!  UGH!  Since the leak is coming from underneath the slab, we have to have a specialist out to detect exactly where it is.  Then they will know where to place the jackhammer and go to town.  Yep, a jackhammer in the kitchen.  Then, they will actually fix the leak.  This all starts Tuesday and they said we should have water by WEDNESDAY!  I can't wait!  After the leak is fixed, all the entire kitchen, dining room and entrance floor will come up.  The big hole will then be treated and dried out.  Next comes our brand new floor!  This will be a long process, but we will be getting some great floors and running water in return!

Since we have no water, we took a little 'staycation' at a local hotel this weekend.  We were able to shower and flush without any problems!  Whoo hooo!!  We went out to a little Mexican joint and had some margarita's and just enjoyed being with each other!  It was nice to laugh about our troubles and that we did!  We tried to make the most of our 'staycation' and I think we definitely got that accomplished!

We needed to laugh.  Tearing up our kitchen was not in the plans for this month... or the next several years.  We both are trying to keep this in perspective.  We know that this is not a life tragedy, but when we saw the water coming up through the floor, we felt so defeated and sick to our stomachs.  Ugh.  I hate that feeling.

We are back at home today and doing what we can.  We had a TON of laundry to do, so we found the nearest laundromat and went to town.  If we would have done the laundry at home, it would have taken all day.  But at the laundromat, SIX loads were done in ONE hour!! ONE HOUR!!  Can you even believe it??  Man, we should go there more often!

The next few days/weeks should be interesting.  I have a big meeting at work on Tuesday.  If you could spare a little prayer that I stay calm and that it all goes great, it would be greatly appreciated.

And... because I can hardly do a post with out pictures...

Doug enjoying a little beverage on our staycation.
Amazed at the laundromat!  Yep, he's a good sport.

Prayers Please! *updated*

Hey ladies -- If you could offer up a few prayers for the DH and I, it would be greatly appreciated.  It seems like such a petty request in the midst of everything else going on with everyone...  But here it is.  We came home tonight to see water seeping through our kitchen floor.  We step on it... water comes up.  Things are really tight right now financially with all the medical bills (DH's diabetes meds, my non-covered testing, etc, etc.)... so please say a quick prayer that this will be able to be resolved asap!  We've called the plumber and will take this one step... or one slab of flooring at a time!  And why does stuff always happen AFTER business hours??  When we had some pipes freeze this winter, it was on a Sunday!  :)

**update** What a way to meet the neighbors!  We have a flooring guy in the neighborhood who has the same model house... we didn't know what else to do, so Doug went over there to grab him.  We couldn't find the main water valve thingy!  He turned it off and came and looked at it.  Water is now seeping into the dining room!  He said they will have to rip it up!  I figured as much, but Ahhhhh!!  Plumber is coming in the morning.  I'll be taking the day off work... works out ok, since I can't stop sneezing!

We are also both crazy sick.  I think I've sneezed at least 500 times today.  I'm not kidding.  I opened a new box of K.leenex in this morning and it is gone!  That's an entire huge box in ONE DAY.  That's just me! DH has his own box.

**update** Make that at sneezing at least 1000 times today!

So, prayers please!  Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

Metformin to the rescue??

Ok ladies... I started on Metformin a week ago.  I'm taking 500 mg/twice a day.  I feel dizzy a few hours after I take it and just weird... a little fuzzy I guess.  If you know me, I'm usually a little fuzzy anyway... but this is in addition to my normal fuzzy state of mind!  I don't feel like I'm going to pass out or anything, but something just seems off.  I was fine the first few days. This just recently started.

I've also been getting horrible headaches, which is very unlike me... I have one right now.  Head is pounding and all that will relieve it is sleep.  Is this just in my head or did any of you have any side effects when you started this??  How long did it take for your body to adjust??  Anything I should know?  I'm a newbie at this!  Any help would be greatly appreciated!  Thanks!

I love my mom!

Simply said... my mom is the best.
She was one cute baby.
She was raised on our family farm.
She was adored by her older sisters.
Yep... pretty cute!
She'd shoot me if she saw this on here!
She met my dad in high school.
The graduated together.  One of my favorite pictures of them!
Wow... that hair!
She went off to college, while my dad was in the Navy.
Then she married my dad. What a beautiful bride.
My mom and grandmother.  Love them both so much.
True Love.
My parents suffered 7 years of infertility...
and then my older brother was born.
I came along 3 years later.
She raised us in the Catholic faith.  I will be forever grateful for that.
She is now a wonderful grandmother.
She has become my best friend (other than DH, of course!)
They are still as happy as they were when they were teens... they are too cute!
They've been married 42 1/2 years!
Happy Mother's Day Mom!

From This... **UPDATED**

From This...
And This...
To This...

Nothing like a nice post-wedding surprise to lift the spirits!  We had my wedding flowers preserved and framed and they just came in this week!  I love them!  For some reason, right before the wedding, I became convinced I needed to 'save' my bouquet forever.  I totally blame this on bride brain syndrome.  I typically don't like flowery items around the house, so in the past months I really had no idea why I did this!  Now that we have them, I'm so glad we do!  They look awesome in the frame and look fantastic hanging in the house!  We also had a few Christmas ornaments made from the bouquet and the bridesmaid bouquets!  I love love love Christmas ornaments that represent a memory or event!  We are giving one to my mom for Mother's Day and she will love it... just like I do!

*** UPDATE***

I got a few emails about the ornaments, the frame, etc.    The frame is a bubble frame.  When you are looking right at it, you can't tell at all.  They had shadow box frames, but I liked the bubble because you could see the flowers no matter where you were viewing them from.  We could only put it on certain walls if we went with the shadow box.  It's a smaller version of my bouquet and I love it.  They matting and materials inside the frame somehow make it so they will stay looking like that indefinitely.  This is how they did it:

They photograph the flowers once they arrive.  Then the entire bouquet is disassembled.  They re-hydrate each bloom in a floral cooler.  Then the preserving begins... they first go to a sand-drying room, then some blooms are bleached to stay white, others are color treated to help them retain their color.  They then freeze-dry them.  No clue how they do it.  Once  the preservation process is complete (we are talking 4- 5 months here!), they bring all the blooms back together and re-create the bouquet.  They make them into about anything... jewelry, rosaries, pictures, ornaments, etc.  Then they come back to the bride, for a wonderful surprise!  It is a big process!

Here are some pics I took with my phone... not the greatest, but you can get the idea!
